In 2016\, Mark McManus was unanimously elected as General President at the UA'\;s 39th General Convention to lead the nation'\;s most progressive and influential trade union. The General President is responsible for supervising the day-to-day affairs of the UA and for decisions concerning internal union governance. Prior to his election as General President\, he served as Administrative Assistant to the General President and as an International Representative for the states of New Jersey and PA. Mark began his career with the United Association in March of 1983 when he was initiated into Plumbers Local 24 in Newark\, NJ. He then went on to hold a variety of leadership positions\, including business agent and executive board member before being elected business manager in 1997. Whether serving his local union or the community through various public board positions\, Mark has been unwavering in his commitment to solidarity\, collective representation\, and economic opportunity for all. We are confident that as General President\, he will continue the UA'\;s tradition of quality training\, safe jobs\, industry partnerships and worker empowerment.\n \;
